A safe, Christ-centered environment to discuss struggles with issues involving deployments, or adjustments with the return of your soldier loved one. Receive support and give support in the process.

Activities:

  • Primarily a discussion focused group
  • Occasional planned activities such as card-making or how-to
  • Occasional speakers of interest

(Meets the 4th Monday of every Month at 7pm in Room 204).

Child of a Warrior Support Group
- We are presently taking names and information of those interested in attending a support group for military kids. Tentatively the first support group will meet in the fall after school starts. Groups will be broken up into age groups. If your child is interested please contact Susan @ bowerssix@earthlink.net  for more information

3) ONGOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES (Be a part of the Military Ministry volunteer corp; you don’t need to understand our military you just need to serve them):

- Provide Childcare for Support Group meetings and other military ministry events. Please contact Melissa Croke @ mcroke@savannahchristian.com  

- Leadership Team/Administrative Duties: duties might include planning events, volunteering during events, maintaining rosters, preparing correspondence, etc.
- Bake Team member: be apart of a team who would like to prepare meals for military familes while soldiers are deployed.

- Cards for Troops: send cards or care packages to soldiers deployed, be a POC for our Cards for Troops program

4) How can you support our military? You don’t need to understand our military you just need to love them. Here is how?

a. Participate in Cards for Troops (POC: Susan Bowers, bowerssix@earthlink.net)

b. Help send Sermon CDs to deployed soldiers overseas (visit the Source for how)

c. Place notes of appreciation/encouragement under the wipers of cars parked in SCC parking lot that has a military decal on the window

d. Adopt a military family.

Step 1. Find a military family at SCC or one in your neighborhood

Step 2. Here is what you can do for that family:

- Invite them to dinner

- Tell mom you’re bringing over a meal so don’t cook!

- Provide mom with a babysitter for a couple hours away.

- Words of encouragement through phone calls, cards of encouragement.

- Remember their birthday

- Offer to mow the lawn, clean the gutters, or wash the car, etc.

- When you take your kids bowling, putt putt golf, to the park or to flying frogs, invite their kids along..

- Pray daily (post their prayer request to remind you to pray) for the soldier deployed and the family home

- Send care packages to the deployed family member

- Send cards (words of encouragement, birthday, holidays) to the deployed family member as well

- Send Sermon tapes

- Find out the soldiers favorite books or magazines and send them

Step 3. You and that military family will be blessed!

e. Be a part of our bake team and bake a meal for our military families whose soldier is deployed
